How to [un]subscribe to the list
NGWList list management commands:
This document will help explain how to subscribe to the ngw mailing list. Previously, we had a form that you could fill out to subscribe to the list. However, that script isn't working just yet, so you will have to send specially formatted email messages to do the job. With all of these email command messages, the important thing is the To: line. The subject and message body are ignored.
You must be subscribed to the list before you can post messages. If you try to post a message to the list from a different address than the one you used when you subscribed, your message will be rejected. See Multiple Address section below for instructions on how to handle that situation.
Registering on this website has NOTHING to do with being subscribed to the mailing list. The website and mailing list are two different pieces of software that don't share anything.
Common list management commands:
The list can be received in two different formats: normal and digest.
These different options are actually seperate mailing lists, with slightly different subscription commands. (to switch between the two options, you need to unsubscribe from one and resubscribe to the other list)
To subscribe to the regular list, send a blank message to:
To subscribe to the digest version of the list, send a message to:
To unsubscribe from the list, send a blank message to:
and for the digest version:
Advanced list management commands:
If your email address format has changed, and you can no longer send from your original email address to perform an unsubscribe, you can manually specify the email address to unsubscribe by putting your original email address in the To: line like such:
(where the "@" in your email address is converted to an "=", and then placed following the normal ngw-unsubscribe part of the request.
for digest:
NOTE: you still need to be able to receive and reply to a confirmation email sent from the ngwlist mailing list software to confirm your command. You can reply to that email using any email address.
Multiple addresses
If you have multiple email addresses that you need to use when posting to the list, but don't want to subscribe all of them (and receive multiple copies of each list message), you may subscribe your additional email addresses to a pseudo list called allow. Its full subscription request address is:
If all else fails....
If you still can't get subscribed, or unsubscribed, or have some other problem, you can contact the ngwlist admin and grovel for help. No guarantees though.
